Managing Yourself in Times of Change

Major change can be stressful at the best of times, but particularly so if you have responsibility for managing the change process and the people involved. Anticipating as well as dealing with the difficulties which others face can be a burdensome managerial responsibility, especially if it involves job losses.

The Keil Centre's approach is to first of all help the individual manage their own feelings, reactions and processes for coping with the changes involved, so that they will be in a better position to manage others through the transition. We have worked with both individuals and groups to help them to develop appropriate personal strategies and skills for managing change. Elements which may be included in this process are:

  • Use of psychometrics or other diagnostic tools to increase awareness of own style, motivators and personality factors which may have an impact on the individual's response to change
  • Models of change and typical phases, feelings and reactions
  • Coping with negative thoughts and emotions
  • Developing emotional control and resilience
  • Understanding of stress and personal stressors
  • Identifying appropriate coping strategies
  • Building the skills and approaches to manage change positively
