Lize van Niekerk

Lize completed her M.Soc.Sc. Degree in Counselling Psychology in 1998 at the University of the Free State, South Africa.  She has been working in the United Kingdom as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist since 2003.

Since qualifying, Lize has mainly been working with adults who present with mental health difficulties.  She has experience in working in a wide range of settings including Occupational Health and the Academia (teaching on a D. Psych. Counselling Psychology programme).  Lize draws on various models of psychotherapy to tailor psychological interventions to clients needs.  These include approaches such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and humanistic psychology (e.g. person centred principles).  In addition, Lize has gained from a range of post qualification training allowing her to apply different psychological techniques as appropriate.  These include EMDR for the treatment of trauma symptoms and other negative life experiences as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

As well as assessing and treating a range of conditions, Lize has a special interest in the field of trauma and has 14 years experience of working with individuals affected by trauma as well as working with emergency services personnel who have been exposed to multiple and prolonged traumatic events.
