Home / Effective teamwork / Select team members

When selecting staff to join an existing team, care must be taken to ensure new members will fit in with existing team members. This is particularly important with teams which perform a critical role, for example top management teams, or when new team members must quickly adapt to existing team practices. For these reasons, an individual's teamworking ability is an essential criteria for selection in many organisations. Recent team selection projects conducted by The Keil Centre include:-
  • Ensuring team selection criteria for an oil refinery's self-managing manufacturing teams reflected the attributes required for business success, and redesigning selection methods to reflect best practice.

  • Objectively assessing key differences in job demands between two apparently similar teams, and designing team selection criteria to allow transfer of team members between teams without impacting on team performance and productivity.
