"A Mentor's role is to help develop the individual's potential,
capability, judgement and wisdom."
Informal mentoring relationships have occurred from time immemorial.
Since the 1980s, many companies have instituted some form of mentoring
which primarily involved senior staff "keeping a watching and
benign eye" on young high-fliers, in an attempt to put some "old
head" knowledge on "young shoulders".
However, many senior executives now take the view that such relationships,
if well matched, can also provide an extremely useful catalyst and
prompt executives to refocus and to regain their sense of strategic
direction.
Many companies use internal mentors, but are increasingly also seeking
external relationships. This is not only to provide an external perspective
but also to increase mentees' knowledge of other sectors and business
approaches.
The Keil Centre provides mentoring support for organisations, either
as part of an internal development activity or on an individual basis.
We have experience of matching individuals to external mentors.
In addition we have designed and run mentoring selection processes
and training for companies wishing to gain the optimum value from
mentoring relationships within their company. |
