David is a qualified Chemist and Psychologist with over 12
years of experience in industry. Prior to his retraining as
an Occupational Psychologist, David worked in the chemical
industry and had direct responsibility for the safe management
of an international chemical manufacturing and supply company.
In his time as a human factors specialist, David has worked
for the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Entec UK Ltd
and is now a Senior Applied Psychologist at the Keil Centre.
David has led and contributed to a wide range of human factors
projects, including:
- Design and delivery of safety leadership and behavioural
safety training in the mining, road maintenance, construction,
heavy manufacturing, foods and waste sectors
- Safe staffing assessments in the oil and gas sector, using
the HSE Staffing Assessment Tool
- Use of cognitive mapping to further understanding of decommissioning
project management
- Design and delivery of an ergonomic assessment and improvement
programme in the nuclear decommissioning sector
- Human Factors lead on a number of top-tier COMAH Safety
Reports
- Design and delivery of safety culture assessments in the
foods, waste, manufacturing, chemicals and construction
industries
- Research concerning the design and application of lead
safety indicators (HSE Report no.HSL/2007/31)
- HSE research concerning Major Accident Hazards.
In addition to these projects, David is currently completing
his PhD at Manchester Business School, thesis title "Participation
and Safety Culture, a Longitudinal Study'.
